Indigo Hair Dye/Colour

Indigo comes from a plant like henna does.
  Unlike henna indigo

releases immediately.
You can use indigo to get a jet black color.

It is also used to to make browns.

There is no such thing as black henna and if someone has claims to be

black
henna I would run.    Henna is one color, reddish orange.

applying water to it.      It is almost always a green powder form.
  If

the powder is brown or black, more than likely it has PPD (harmful

chemical)
 in it.

How to Apply indigo for a wicked jet black (any hair type).

Step 1. Mix henna with pure fresh squeezed
lemon juice (not

concentrate) the night before you
are going to dye your hair.    Mix

lemon juice first
leaving it thick but able to stir.

Step 2. The next morning add enough water to make it
consistent to

yogurt.

Step 3. Wash and dry your hair with a
regular shampoo ( not

dandruff shampoo!) and then section
your hair to be ready for henna.

Step 4. Put on gloves and add
natural henna to hair and leave on for

2 hours and rinse out.
Make sure to remove any excess dye from

scalp lines and cover
with hair cap after it is applied.       Also make

sure you apply thick.

Or just Indigo Powder
=================================================================

You can also just touch up the roots as your

hair grows out so you do not have to redo the entire head.

Do not shampoo for 24-48 hours. 48 hours is best. You can

use a conditioner if you have to.

                Indigo Leaf Powder for Hair

Indigo Powder is also known as Neel and Wasma.    Indigofera is

Latin for “indigo bearing” and its botanical name is Indigofera

tinctoria.    Indigo is a deciduous shrub, It grows in subtropical

regions and temperate areas of India and requires plenty of light.
=====================================
]l head.

Indigo alone = blue,       indigo and henna = black.

Indigo will fade faster than henna, you can perk it up using
10%

henna and 90% indigo.

Indigo is grown from seed and is harvested bi-annually.    Indigo plant

grows to one to two meters high with small green leaves and purple

colour flowers.   The mature plants are cut off just above the soil, and

allowed to dry in the open fields for three or four days.   The green

leaves are collected, crushed and stored.    The crushed leaves are

pulverized to a powder.     Indigo is an ancient dye plant known for

the clarity and fastness of the blue colour.  This is the dye

traditionally used to natural hair colours

Indigofera tinctoria is a natural dye from Indigo Powder.    Indigo

powder is used to naturally deepen the intensity of  herbal hair

colours.    Indigo oxidizes when exposed to air and water so when the

hair colour is mixed with hot water ready for use the indigo is

activated.

Direction for uses on hair:

Soak Indigo Powder in water at 50 deg Celsius to make an applicable

paste.      Apply the paste immediately on hair.    Put on surgical

gloves to save your hands from stains.      Divide your hair in four

sections & apply paste on each from root to top evenly. Give 3 hours

time.    Rinse off thoroughly and use hair dryer for 10-15 minutes to

get better results.

Please note that the colours applied on the hair takes 48 hours to

darken.     So the final colour is obtained after 48 hours.

Hair Colour Advice : How much henna for hair / indigo do I need to use

and how long do I leave it in for ?

It depends how long and how thick or fine your hair is. As a general rule of thumb, I

suggest these quantities for “normal” hair, but I would say to reduce these

quantities by about 10 - 20gms for really fine hair, and double the quantities here

for really thick hair : If you’re in a country that doesn’t use grammes, sorry, just try

to adjust according to the weight of the pack , eg 50gms = a quarter pack of the

200gms bag of henna, 100gms = half a pack & so on ) :

   short / chin length hair - 50 gms henna / 30 or 40 gms indigo

   shoulder length hair - 100 gms henna / 70 or 80 gms indigo

   mid back length hair - 200gms henna / 140 or 150 gms indigo

   hip length hair - 300 gms henna / 210 or 220 gms indigo

Roughly, I would advise to leave henna in your hair a minimum of 2 hours; the

process can be speeded up by use of a hair drier, set to a moderate heat setting, if

you’re in a real hurry. How long you leave the indigo in for depends how deep a

colour you want. It varies from say 10 minutes to 2 hours, or even longer if you

want ! Ten to fifteen minutes will be sufficient to change your rich reddish henna

tones to a muted brown hair colour ; half an hour would give you a really deep

brown black hair colour ; an hour would give you black hair; 2 hours an intense

deep raven black hair colour. You get the idea anyway. To start with, if you’re

aiming for brown hair colour, leave the indigo in for ten to fifteen minutes and no

more. Then you can determine if you need to leave it in for a longer or shorter

period the next time round.
